I learned about leadership, vital behaviors, and influences during the Leading Organization Change course. Influence is crucial to creating change, positively or negatively. Based on the book Influencer, I learned that to change behavior; we start from the heart, then the leader must create the desired result, identify vital behaviors and influencers in the organization, and use the six sources of influence to increase the chances of success.

Goal: Pre-k teachers (12 teachers) will implement blended learning strategies in their classrooms to encourage students to read for pleasure in the following academic year.

 Vital behaviors: 

1. Teachers will set up the classroom by applying a blended learning environment.  

2. Teachers will integrate blended learning strategies with the pre-k curriculum.  

3. Teachers will hold each other accountable through collaborating with one another.

Measurements: 

 1. The Blended learning team will visit each classroom to verify and assess via Google Docs rubric if it has a blended learning environment. 

 2. Each week in the PLC meetings, the teachers establish the goals and objectives and share the difficulties and successes achieved in the week.  

 3. Teachers will create a group journal where they write down what they are learning about implementing blended learning in their classrooms through some key questions.

Six Sources of Influence

Motivation

  • Encourage teachers to create a mission and purpose about the need to implement Blended Learning Strategies in classrooms. 

 

  • Understand that technology is a catalyst to enhance learning. 

 

  • Efforted for teachers to accept the change positively and not as an obligation. 

Personal

  • Provided coaching, guidance, and mentoring to find it easy to move in a new direction to acquire the new behavior.  

  • Identified enthusiastic adopters and involved those teachers in the new change/behavior process. 

  • Made it clear that we plainly have administrative support for the new change/behavior. 

Social

  • Designed rewards and incentives for teachers -for example, tardy passes, early passes, and jeans day-. 

  •  Make sure everyone understands that the change to the new behavior is of great importance and responsibility.  

  • Make sure everyone understands the rewards and consequences tied to the new behavior. 

Structural

Abilty

  • Gave teachers information and clarified their doubts until they understood how to implement a Blended Learning Environment. 

 

  • Allowed teachers to participate in the use of technology in a personal way. 

 

  • Implemented communication strategies to help teachers face emotional obstacles and thus be successful in the new behavior.

  • Provided everyone with the information and resources needed to start a simple and easy setup of the new behavior. 

  • Used coaches to help other colleagues in difficulties in a responsible way. 

  • Created an environment where teachers feel comfortable giving and receiving help.

  • Used regular communication to convey that the change is important for better academic performance in school.  

  • Provided new software and resources to make the new behavior easy.  

  • Provided through different media feedback on the success and struggles that have been committed during the process of the new behavior.
