Who Owns the e-Portfolio

During the readings about the COVA approach and the videos, I have learned that it is essential to allow students to have choice, ownership, and voice; these components help create a significant learning environment through authentic learning. But as educators, we have a responsibility to help students take ownership of their learning. In his book (COVA p. 73), Dr. H explains that sometimes it is essential to give students step-by-step activities and instructions to scaffold them to have control of the learning process. Fink's 3 column teaches us that this guide is vital to have clear goals, have adequate activities, and be able to guide the student to good learning. Reading "The Web we need to give students" caught my attention, and of course, I am concerned, and it is about student privacy. I liked implementing the University of Mary Washington (UMW) 'The Domain of One's Own initiative," this allows the student to have protection and restriction in web presence and helps them have more control over their scholarship, data, and digital identity.
